Episode Description
In this episode of The P.A.S. Report Podcast, Professor Nick Giordano takes a deep dive into how mindsets have changed regarding the 9/11 attacks, which has led to a growing disconnect, especially among younger generations. While we were supposed to ‘Never Forget’ 9/11, it seems too many Americans have forgotten the core meaning behind that phrase. Professor Giordano discusses the disturbing rise of anti-American sentiment, with nearly 30% of Gen Z sympathizing with Osama bin Laden’s ideas, and how our schools have shifted away from teaching patriotism and love of country. He also offers solutions on how to reverse this trend, reclaim our history, and reintroduce civics education that fosters pride in American values.
Episode Highlights:
- Why students are disconnected from the significance of 9/11.
- The alarming rise of anti-American sentiment and sympathy for extremist ideologies among younger generations.
- Solutions to restore patriotism and civics education in our schools to unite the next generation.

Before I jump into today’s episode, I am switching things up a bit this week. Usually, I drop the interview episodes on Monday, but given that we have the debate on Tuesday, I am going to drop my monologue episode today. I will drop an interview episode on Wednesday, and I have a great guest coming on to talk about 9/11 so be sure to check it out. Then, on Thursday, I will drop another episode where I will provide my thoughts, analysis, and breakdown of the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, as well as its implications on the presidential election.
Now, for today’s episode, I want to focus on something that’s been on my mind, especially with the 9/11 anniversary just around the corner. We’ve all heard the phrase “Never Forget,” but I can’t help but feel that, over the years, we’ve forgotten. And I’m not just talking about the usual remembrances or the ceremonies. I’m talking about how we’ve moved away from the core meaning behind that phrase and what it represents for us as a society.
Back in the days and months immediately following the attacks, there was a deep sense of unity, patriotism, and an understanding of what was at stake. It was a time when our country came together, not just to mourn the lives lost but to stand strong in defense of our freedoms and values. There was a commitment to ensure that something like this would never happen again. We were united in purpose and love of country. People had pride in America.
Patriotism and love of country weren’t seen as some far-right extremist ideology. It was an American value that transcended political divisions, a belief in the greatness of the nation and a commitment to defending its principles of Freedom, Liberty, and Selflessness.
But here we are, 23 years later, and so much has changed. Those feelings have evaporated. Now things like the American flag and patriotism are seen as triggers and ultra far-right. We the People seem to have lost our sense of purpose, and so has the government, where they have grown increasingly authoritarian.
It seems we went off the rails somewhere, and the significance of 9/11 and ‘Never Forget’ has faded for many, particularly the younger generations. We live in a time when students today were born after 9/11. They didn’t experience the shock, the fear, or the grief that we all felt. For them, it’s just another chapter in their history books. A tragic event, yes, but they’re disconnected from the emotional reality of that day.
And I will explain exactly what I am talking about when we get back from this quick break so hang tight.
