Episode Description
A new generation of Americans are being exploited and instilled with hate. Campus Reform recently interviewed university students who were not proud to identify as an American. They didn’t believe America was a great and welcoming country. They expressed a willingness to relinquish their citizenship. This is even more dangerous as the poison is now being pushed on children as young as 4 years old. How can a nation survive if entire generations despise the nation they come from?

Intro
Welcome everyone to another episode of The P.A.S. Report Podcast.
I hope you enjoyed the 16-cents savings over the July 4th weekend. Of course, the administration wants us to ignore the nearly 50% increase in gas prices and the increase in the price of most other goods and services. Just know that the entire 16 cent savings is wiped out with a single gallon of gas where it’s costing you nearly a dollar more.
For today, I’m going to piggyback off my conversation on Monday with Michael Knowles. It was a great episode, and if you haven’t listened yet, check it out. We discussed his new book, Speechless, and he clearly articulates how we have essentially lost the culture war.

And if you want to see what we meant when discussing that, all you have to do is look at Campus Reform. Over the weekend, Campus Reform reporter, Ophelie Jacobson, went to Georgetown University to see what students think about America. Ophelie did a great job exposing how an entire generation has little appreciation or knowledge of the United States.
I’m going to play the entire clip and break it down into five parts. First, I’ll discuss the idea of being proud to be American. Next, I’ll focus on the question of whether America is a great country. We will then examine if there are any better countries out there. After that, we will tackle the idea of relinquishing citizenship. I’ll wrap up and talk about the influences that shaped this generation, and what it means for our future.
Before I get started, be sure to go to The P.A.S. Report website. While you’re there, sign up for The P.A.S. Report Newsletter, and be sure to subscribe to the podcast so you never miss an episode.
Proud to be American
We are going to start off by focusing on the idea of being proud to be American. So, I’m going to play the first part of the Campus Reform piece, and I want you to take a listen.
Sound Clip Proud to be American
Not only is what we just heard disturbing, but it’s also disgusting. America isn’t the thing that’s embarrassing. Perhaps, it’s the people we are producing that’s embarrassing. Perhaps, it’s our education system that’s embarrassing.
These students have zero appreciation for this great country, and the fact remains that we are the greatest country in the history of the world.
However, we have entire generations that have no regard for the United States, and truth be told, they actually know nothing about the country, and I’ll get into that later.
Now, some people will push back against me. They’ll argue that this is a small sample size. They’ll say that Campus Reform selectively targeted those who would respond how Campus Reform wanted in order to create controversary.
Understand, that those are a bunch of lies, and the data, backs Campus Reform and me up. Every year, Gallup does polling before the July 4th weekend asking this exact question, and as I have stated in previous episodes, the trend line continues to decline of those who say they are proud to be American and of America.
Between 2001-2013, the number of Americans, who were extremely proud or very proud, held steady in the high 80s to low 90s percentile. If we take a snapshot of the last four years, the numbers have dramatically changed.
In 2018, the number of Americans saying they were extremely or very proud to be American was 72%. (Gallup 2018)
In 2019, the number of Americans saying they were extremely or very proud to be American was 70%. (Gallup 2019)
In 2020, the number of Americans saying they were extremely or very proud to be American was 63%. (Gallup 2020) That’s a drop-off of 13 points.
This year, 2021, the number of Americans saying they were extremely or very proud to be American ticked up 6-points to 69%. (Gallup 2021) While it did tick up, it’s still a far cry from the highs throughout our history.
We also have to do a deeper dive into the numbers to realize that this is a generational problem, and how we now have entire generations, the younger generation, that seems to have disdain for the United States.
In 2018, only 33% of those between the ages of 18-29 were extremely proud.
In 2019, only 24% of those between the ages of 18-29 were extremely proud.
In 2020, only 20% of those between the ages of 18-29 were extremely proud.
In 2021, only 26% of those between the ages of 18-34 were extremely proud.
Now you’ll notice, that in 2021, the age breakdown increased from 18-34 so that percentage is inflated. I could guarantee if we kept the same age range at 18-29, it would be less than 26%.
These numbers are far lower than any other age demographic where 71% of those between the ages 35-54 and 73% of those 55+ are extremely proud or very proud.
And I’m not going to sugarcoat this. The big drop-off is coming amongst Democrats. Republican numbers have held pretty steadily regardless of who’s in office, where the Democrat numbers have plummeted regardless of who is in office.
Why this massive drop-off is pretty obvious, but I’ll get to that a little later.
Is America a Great Country
First, I want to focus on the next area and that’s on the question of whether America is a great country. Take a listen.
Sound Clip Is America a Great Country
To me, those responses are not surprising, but it does reveal a deep-seated hatred of America by its own. The sad part is that they don’t even know why they despise this country that has offered them so much opportunity.
Consider this, these are students at one of the most prestigious universities in the country. It’s considered part of the ivy league, and the price tag to attend the schools for one year is over a whopping $82,000. I wonder when parents will begin to wake up to the fact that they’re getting ripped off.
But more importantly, when we talk about privilege, here’s your privilege. You attend an elite university that most Americans could never afford, and you consistently bash the United States.
So why do they think this way? Obviously, many would say it’s the indoctrination taking place within the education system. That’s partly true and I’ll focus more on that later, but it’s not the only reason.
Consider that over the last 15 years, we’ve seen high-profile Americans denigrate their own country. It used to be that you could have any political position you want when it comes to the issues, but if you expressed anti-American sentiment, your political career would be over.
However, for the last 15-years, many who express anti-American sentiment are often celebrated, idolized, and elevated. Immediately coming to mind is the former First Lady, Michelle Obama. Take a listen.
Sound Clip Michelle Obama
Her words are clear. So, everything up until that point in her life, she expresses disappointment for the United States. Rather than talk about how far we’ve come and shown an appreciation for the country that has offered her so much opportunity.
And she isn’t the only one. Take a listen to former Attorney General Eric Holder.
Sound Clip Eric Holder
Again, he says America was never great because of things like slavery and because women didn’t have the right to vote. Now no one justifies our past sins, and we teach things like slavery and suffrage for a reason.
However, again, we see this failure to acknowledge how far we’ve come. We see this failure to acknowledge all the good America has done. We see a failure to acknowledge the greatness of the vision our founders had.
You have a bunch of people who oversimplify everything and ignore the totality of the American experience. You have an entire generation who know little of our history or what makes the United States the greatest country in the world. You have a bunch of entitled and pompous people who want to apply 21st century standards to the past, but only to our past and our founding fathers. Do you notice that they never apply these standards to any other empire?
American greatness can be witnessed in someone like Frederick Douglas. Since we just celebrated July 4th, let’s take a look at a man American’s know little about. Here is someone who was self-educated and a former slave who would give speeches throughout the country. He was a remarkable civil rights leader, and he gave a speech titled, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” When you read the speech, he defends the idea that July 4th cannot be celebrated until Black Americans were a free people, and we abolish the evil practice of slavery.
In this speech, he rips apart the idea of slavery and explains how it is in direct conflict with the intent of our founding and our Constitution. This one speech alone decimates the 1619 Project that is now being pushed throughout the country. While he wasn’t a fan of slavery, he was an ardent defender of the Constitution and held it up as a remarkable document.
In one part of his speech, he says, “In that instrument I hold there is neither warrant, license, nor sanction of the hateful thing; but, interpreted as it ought to be interpreted, the Constitution is a GLORIOUS LIBERTY DOCUMENT. Read its preamble, consider its purposes. Is slavery among them? Is it at the gateway? or is it in the temple? It is neither. While I do not intend to argue this question on the present occasion, let me ask, if it be not somewhat singular that, if the Constitution were intended to be, by its framers and adopters, a slave-holding instrument, why neither slavery, slaveholding, nor slave can anywhere be found in it…Now, take the constitution according to its plain reading, and I defy the presentation of a single pro-slavery clause in it. On the other hand it will be found to contain principles and purposes, entirely hostile to the existence of slavery.”
Imagine, someone who understood what slavery was first-hand from his own lived experience. Someone who witnessed real hatred and evil, yet here he is defending the Constitution as the way forward. That shows the greatness of America.
And Frederick Douglas ended the speech by saying, “I do not despair of this country. There are forces in operation, which must inevitably work The downfall of slavery…and the doom of slavery is certain. I, therefore, leave off where I began, with hope.”
When we talk about the greatness of America, we can see it embodied in this man and so many others that came before and after him. He threw down the gauntlet and challenged Americans to live up to their most sacred principles.
When we look back at Frederick Douglas, if he were around today, would he take the popular opinion among the left that America is a horrible country founded in sin by a bunch of white oppressors who created the country based on slavery and racism?
The answer is no. In fact, he had a profound respect for the founders and the founding of the country, even given his ardent opposition to slavery. He constantly paid tribute to the founders and their intent. In the same speech, he said, “Fellow Citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too—great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contended for, I will unite with you to honor their memory.
They loved their country better than their own private interests; and, though this is not the highest form of human excellence, all will concede that it is a rare virtue, and that when it is exhibited, it ought to command respect. He who will, intelligently, lay down his life for his country, is a man whom it is not in human nature to despise. Your fathers staked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor, on the cause of their country. In their admiration of liberty, they lost sight of all other interests.
With them, justice, liberty, and humanity were “final;” not slavery and oppression. You may well cherish the memory of such men. They were great in their day and generation. Their solid manhood stands out the more as we contrast it with these degenerate times.”
Frederick Douglas was a giant amongst men, and if you haven’t read A Glorious Liberty: Frederick Douglas and the Fight for an Antislavery Constitution, I suggest you do.
Here is a man, who lived under injustice, yet had a love and appreciation for America and its intent. You listen to Frederick Douglas and then you listen to the constant anti-Americanism, it clearly illustrates they no understanding of our history.
The fact remains that America is the greatest country to ever exist in the history of the world. No other country has done more for humanity than the United States. Despite our sins, we constantly look to correct past mistakes and injustices.
More importantly, America is the most powerful nation that has ever existed, yet we wield our power far less than any previous empire. It’s why America is referred to as the benevolent superpower. While we have made mistakes when it comes to foreign policy, and we have plenty of policies we can look back at and criticize, we have not imposed our will as previous empires have done.
I can easily make the argument that we’ve gone out of our way not to use our power and influence in many situations, and it’s been to our own detriment.
I can give just one example. Take Iraq. Now we can all debate the merits of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and in hindsight, it may not have been worth it. However, remember all the talk that it was a war for oil?
That was a bunch of garbage. Saddam Hussein was evil. He didn’t get the title Butcher of Baghdad because he was a pussycat. He was brutal. It would have made sense to take some of the oil and reimburse ourselves for ousting Saddam, but we didn’t.
Any other country would have taken Iraq’s oil, and wouldn’t have cared about the criticism. We didn’t, and in fact, the overwhelming majority of oil contracts Iraq issued went to our adversaries like China and Russia. We allowed Iraq to hold free and fair elections, and they elected Nouri al-Malicki who made our job ten times more difficult. Who constantly criticized and bashed the United States, and bowed to the Iranian mullahs.
If we used our power and influence, we could have easily taken the oil. If we used our power and influence, we could have prevented al-Malicki from getting elected, or once elected, we could have taken him out. But we didn’t do that. We didn’t do that because we wanted the Iraqi people to decide. We wanted them to be in control over their own destiny, and it was to the detriment of the United States because what did we really gain?
And that’s just one example. I could provide dozens more. Unfortunately, we now have entire generations that lack the ability to think critically.

What Country is Better Than the United States?
This brings me to the next two sound clips where Ophelie Jacobson asks these people what country is better than the United States. Again, the responses are classic. Take a listen.
Sound Clip What Country is Better
When we talk about the idea of thinking critically, in the first sound clip I played, one of the people said she was embarrassed to be American because of our past. One thing she brought up was colonization.
Then in this clip, we hear a couple of these people bring up Europe as a better place than the United States. Putting aside the fact that Europe is a continent and not a country, it appears that these students are devoid of European history considering that it was nations in Europe that were the biggest colonizers on the planet.
More importantly, their colonization has contributed to many of the problems we witnessed today. Just look at Africa and the Berlin conference, where several European nations divided African lands without any regard to culture or history, and not one African nation or tribe was present as these colonizers redrew African borders.
Yet, they hold Europe as a model over the United States. Just think of the two great wars within Europe where more people died in these two wars than nearly all previous wars combined. Just think of the constant conflicts and border shifts.
And it’s also obvious that these people have no idea what it may be like for those who immigrate to Europe. While you’re be treated very well as a tourist, many European countries are not so opening and welcome to others. Many of those who immigrate to Europe will be relegated to the slums and have little chance of social mobility. Given that European nations are monolithic, and the overwhelming majority within these countries are people with 5,000 years of a shared history, a shared culture, a shared language, many of those who immigrate to these countries will face racism and discrimination.
And this isn’t exclusive to Europe. Look at how immigrants are treated in China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, or any other country on the planet.
Obviously, we have a problem when it comes to thinking critically here in the United States, but did you notice that not a single person was able to name a country that’s better than the United States?
So, they have this disdain for America because of our history, but they’re unable to name a country that’s better. Not only that, but let’s be honest, even if they named another country, odds are they have no idea about that country’s history.
I can assure you that no matter the country, I can show you the atrocities and injustices that the country is guilty of. There is not a single country out there that’s free from sin.
And given these people’s disdain for the United States, I would love to ask them if they believe a world dominated by communist China, Russia or any other country, would be better than the current dynamic?
Willing to Give Up Citizenship
This brings me to the next clip. Take a listen.
Sound Clip Willing to Give Up Citizenship
So, they can’t name another country that’s better, but they’re quick to say that they would be willing to move out of the United States and relinquish their citizenship. Again, this clearly shows the idiocy of what we’re talking about.
One of the people talks about Canada. You know, I always find it interesting when people bring up Canada. Do they not realize that Canada is a result of colonization? Obviously, these people have no clue about Canadian history. Like many countries past, the growth of Canada came at the expense of indigenous peoples like most other places around the world, and Canada is not without its own sin.
It’s also clear that they have little to no value of citizenship or nationhood. They are so willing to say they’ll give up their citizenship because they lack any real knowledge of the world around them. They don’t realize how lucky they are by being in America, and it’s a double-edged sword.
They are shielded from the horrors of the world and exist within their bubbles. They don’t have to fear invasion by another country. They don’t have to fear a secret police force kicking in their door in the dead of night because they dared to speak out against the government. They don’t have to fear mortars dropping on their homes.
The fact is that they are shielded from these things that occur in many other countries around the world. This is not to say people don’t have problems. Some people are struggling economically. Some may live in neighborhoods plagued by violence. But let’s be honest, we all hit the lottery just by being in the United States. It really is interesting how those who can spend over $80,000 a year for education at Georgetown University, can preach about injustice.
If the United States was so terrible, why would so many risk their lives, take the dangerous journey, to get here. Ultimately, America is the final destination for many around the world.
And here you have Americans, who have no appreciation for what they have. And it’s because they’ve been shielded from the horrors of the world. They take for granted all that America offers and stands for. That’s the double-edged sword I’m speaking of.
It’s why I believe that as part of the high school curriculum, every single student should have to spend two months abroad. Not in some first-world European country, but in a struggling country so that they can see how the majority of the rest of the world really live. To see the struggles people go through on a daily basis. A place where there’s limited electricity. A place where there’s no such thing as air conditioning, no TV, limited internet.
I would guarantee that if we did this, students would have a renewed appreciation of America and everything they have. They would realize how much we take for granted our everyday household items that we look at as a right rather than a luxury.
This would be one program I wouldn’t mind my hard-earned taxpayer dollars going to, and I’m sure most of you would agree.
This is not to say that you can’t criticize the government or our policies. I don’t mind criticism, and if you listen to this podcast, you know I constantly criticize our government and the dumb policies. I criticize the officials in charge. I call out the political parties. But I will never denigrate the United States, and I will always praise the vision and intent of our founders.
We changed the course of humanity. We changed the world, and for the better.
Where Did They Learn to Despise America?
So, many within the newer generations are devoid of reality. They don’t understand history, and they tell us exactly how they developed their perception of the United States. Take a listen.
Sound Clip Education Shapes Perception
Using Jen Psaki’s famous phrase, if we circle back to the Gallup poll I discussed at the beginning of this episode, it’s the same age demographic that attended school when we began to cheapen real American history and the greatness of America. There is a direct correlation, and in this case, correlation equals causation.
We have created this warped view of America, and unfortunately too many are susceptible to this nonsense. They’re also easily influenced by some of the morons out there.
And sadly, we are now incorporating the oversimplification of our history and contempt for the United States in the curriculum throughout the country to students as young as kindergarten. As Michael Knowles and I discussed on Monday, children can’t push back and that’s the point.
Children this young have not developed the skills to think critically about what they’re being taught. They don’t know it’s nonsense. If college students are susceptible to this nonsense, younger students are doomed.
Closing
And we cannot continue to produce entire generations that loathe the place they come from. Nations cannot survive self-loathing, and it will lead us down a dark and dangerous path.
But that’s where we come in. We have a responsibility to teach our children the greatness of America. We have a responsibility to expose our children to both the good and the bad when it comes to American history. We have a responsibility to instill the American political philosophy, including the concepts of liberty and freedom. We have a responsibility to push back against the officials trying to indoctrinate our children.
Ignoring our real history. Teaching this constant perversion does a disservice for all those who fought in the name of ending slavery and segregation, especially those who died.

How many Black people died in the name of advancing civil rights? How many White people have died in the name of fighting for civil rights? We tend to forget that.
This perversion does a disservice to every civil rights leader who fought for equality. It does a disservice to America and every single American.
Be brave, have courage, and don’t be afraid to speak out. This should not be normalized in any way. The dynamic won’t change on its own. It’s up to us.
