Americans Last? Hurricane Helene Victims Suffer While U.S. Gives Foreigners Billions
Nearly two weeks ago, Hurricane Helene slammed the Western Coast of Florida and swept through several states, including Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Initially classified as a category 4, the hurricane was labeled a tropical storm, as it persisted into the northern bound states. Hurricanes are based on a 1 to 5 rating scale with 5 being the worst; however, this scale only accounts for the storm’s wind speed. Much of the carnage and damage from hurricanes results from flooding either from a storm surge, incessant rain, or both.
The widespread devastation of Helene – obliterating multiple communities and leaving death and ruin in its path has largely resulted from flooding. With the death toll rising above 230, Helene has become the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Katrina nearly 20 years ago. The videos, images, and stories of fatalities and destruction are utterly heart-wrenching. There are hundreds of individuals still missing, hundreds of thousands of citizens without power, and with network outages pervasive in the region, lack of communication capabilities is making rescue and relief efforts far more difficult.
With all this in the backdrop, let’s examine how our leaders are dealing with this crisis. FEMA is a federal agency that falls under the guise of the Department of Homeland Security headed by Alejandro Mayorkas. Sigh. There is a lot of incompetence to go around in the Biden administration, but Mayorkas takes the cake. In his latest bid for the most irresponsible and incompetent government leader, Mayorkas said, “FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season.” Keep in mind, this is on the heels of Congress recently awarding FEMA $20 billion, and with Hurricane Milton expected to make landfall in Florida soon, his statement is not reassuring the American people.
There are, of course, challenges to assisting individuals who are victims of Helen’s havoc, including access to areas where people need food, water, and shelter because roads and bridges have been completely destroyed. Organizations are doing the best they can to help; however, it seems that much of the aid is coming from local communities and private organizations. There are even reports that FEMA officials are in hotels near affected areas but have not been mobilized. Fact-checking this claim is difficult as the dominant liberal media scrambles to cover for this administration, even in the wake of all the suffering this hurricane has caused.
The best way to assess this is to listen to the actual victims. In the interview linked here, a resident from North Carolina explains to the reporter that those helping include the Salvation Army and Walmart. He added that he personally hasn’t seen any federal agents. Something crucial the young man stated was that when he finally did get power and took to social media to explain the dire circumstances he and his fellow residents were enduring, the responses he received shocked him. People outside the affected area thought that everything was being taken care of.
All of this is despicable, particularly when you learn how much of FEMA funds have gone to illegal migrants. The organization’s mission is to aid Americans before during and after a disaster, yet more than $1 billion has been allocated directly from FEMA funds to house and service foreign migrants within our nation’s borders. Not to worry! Kamala Harris has put on her FEMA cape and is promising a paltry $750 for people who have lost everything including the roof over their heads. All they have to do is apply –not sure how well that works when you’re surrounded by rubble without a computer in sight. Just for comparison, foreign migrants in New York City receive pre-paid debit cards worth $350 per week!
On October 5th, amid all the hurricane turmoil, VP Harris tweeted about the “dire humanitarian situation” Lebanese people are facing and bragged that the U.S. was providing $157 million to that country. Also, just a few weeks ago, Biden pledged another $8 billion to Ukraine. This is in addition to the over $61 billion our current administration has already given them. All of this begs the question – why does this administration always put American citizens last? Americans are thirsting to be heard, to be seen, and to be taken care of by our own government, but time after time, this administration prioritizes everyone else. It is a disgrace.
