They say that those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it, and we are living proof of that every day. Given that Americans lack a basic understanding of history, including American history, and given that may know little about our government and how it is supposed to operate, we have witnessed some serious abuses within the system- most of which are predictable. Sadly, many of our officials are devoid of any historical knowledge as well.

Just look at what happened after 20 years of war in Afghanistan. Maybe if our policymakers asked themselves why Afghanistan has the nickname of the graveyard of empires, maybe we could have developed policies that actually would have worked.

However, just because the policymakers may be lazy, dumb, or just plain nefarious, it doesn’t mean we have to be, and it doesn’t mean that we don’t have our own civic obligations.

As citizens, we have a responsibility to know and understand history and the American system of government. I am so tired of hearing that everything is rigged so what’s the point? The reality is that as more Americans disengage from the political process, the abuses of power grow worse and worse.

But they also get more dangerous and brazen. It’s why I want to talk about Seymour Hersh’s article where he lays out the case that the United States was behind the Nord Stream pipeline sabotage. This is an explosive article and it has significant ramifications.

What is stunning is the lack of media coverage concerning the article. If what Mr. Hersh says is true, which I have little doubt is true given the specificity of his report, why does the media remain silent? They have an obligation to ask tough questions and to get the answers.

This goes far beyond everyday Republican-Democratic politics. It goes beyond the parties, and if this is true, it could have changed our way of life as we know it.

I will go through Mr. Hersh’s and what it means. I will show you why it’s such an important story. The fact that the media hasn’t provided much coverage is journalism malpractice.
