Governor DeSantis Combats Illegal Immigration
Although he hasn’t yet completed one term, Biden’s presidency seems like an eternity. Ignoring or causing problems, including a weak economy, a dramatic increase in violence across our nation, and a southern border that is non-existent, Joe Biden has run a strong nation into an accelerated decline. Illegal Immigration has exploded under this administration, and despite what the elites proclaim, it is a huge problem. This week I would like to focus on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his leadership in the battle against illegal immigration.
The beauty of America is that each state is its own small-scale experiment in democracy. We can look at liberal-led blue states, like California, or conservative-leaning red states, like Florida, and compare how each state is performing. In the past four years or so, hundreds of thousands of Americans have completely uplifted their lives and relocated thousands of miles to escape the self-sabotaging policies of leftist states to states like Florida, that put the interests of its citizens first – you know the people that work and pay taxes. This is a testament to a state that implements policies that allow it to function well for its people.
In just 3 years of this president’s rule, more than 7.2 million illegal immigrants have flowed into the United States. There are an estimated 1.8 million ‘gotaways,’ which are illegals who have skirted the United States Border Patrol. We have no idea who these people are, where they come from, or what their intentions are. The federal government, whose primary role under Article IV of the constitution is to, “guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government and shall protect each of them against invasion…” has failed miserably. It is up to strong and sensible governors, like Ron DeSantis, to take charge.
On March 15th, the Florida governor signed 3 bills that seek to curb illegal immigrants that would otherwise pour into his state. With the instability occurring in Haiti right now, stringent immigration laws are necessary. These bills impose felony charges, including prison time for any individual who is found in Florida after being deported. It inhibits localities within Florida from accepting any form of ID issued to illegals by other states and absolutely prohibits the issuance of driver’s licenses to any illegal migrant. So, ask yourself – if you were an illegal alien from Haiti or anywhere in the world, where would you go, Florida or New York? Here in New York, not only are illegal aliens welcomed, but they are given a food stipend and lodging – courtesy of the NYS taxpayer.
Regardless of how you feel about Governor DeSantis, you must admit, that he manages his state well, and he does it by making the wants and needs of his citizens paramount. He has a Florida First mentality, similar to President Trump’s America First approach. Despite how the dishonest media tries to portray this governor, the truth is that people like his policies. How do I know that? From the mid-summer of 2021 to the same time in 2022, almost half a million people moved to the Sunshine State. In 2022, 91,201 New Yorkers relocated to Florida. Many of us on the East Coast know someone who has moved to Florida or the Carolinas. In the same way, citizens of California have departed to friendlier states, like Texas and Idaho.
Governor DeSantis should be applauded for his efforts to prioritize the well-being of his legal residents over those from other countries. It’s easy to say that we should let anyone who wants to enter our country come in. It’s also easy to say that you will buy every individual in America a new Bugatti; however, at some point, reality catches up to fantasy. What is the breaking point? How many people are too many? These questions have plagued American policymakers for years, but those on the left refuse to answer. The truth is this – immigration is a part of our country’s founding. Immigrants have been and continue to be an integral part of America’s growth and success, but it must be done in an orderly fashion. Governor DeSantis is a shining example of how to lead fearlessly on this issue.
