Vice Presidential Candidate J.D. Vance – The Epitome of the American Dream
From a young age, the odds were stacked against J.D. Vance. This stands in sharp contrast to the propaganda Americans are incessantly subjected to – that all white men are oppressors and are privileged. Vance’s story, which mirrors millions of others who are victims of the socio-economic status they are born into, proves otherwise. J.D. Vance was born in the lower middle-class town of Middletown, Ohio, and certainly did not enjoy any privilege. This week is a rave about the kind of person who embodies the strength and values The United States stands for.
Like many towns in Appalachia, Middletown was riddled with poverty and drug addiction. Vance grew up without his father in the home and his mother, like so many in the region, became addicted to prescription painkillers and heroin. Fortunately, she is now in recovery and has been sober for years. However, because of all the turmoil during his childhood, he started to do poorly in school and became withdrawn.
When his grandmother, who Vance refers to as “Mamaw,” understood that J.D. was at a crossroads, in danger of not reaching his full potential, she took him into her home to provide him with some stability. As a result, his grades improved, and he learned the value of labor by working at a grocery store.
He went on to enlist in the military, and after four years of serving as a marine, he gained the confidence to apply for college. Eventually, he graduated from Ohio State University and even gained entrance into Yale Law School. In his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, he describes how he felt out of place among the many rich and elite attendees of the Ivy League University, yet he persisted. It was there that he met his future wife, Usha Chilukuri, who is of Indian descent. They married in 2014 and have three children: Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel. The media doesn’t like to discuss this aspect of Vance’s life. It’s difficult to brand someone a racist when he marries someone outside his race and has mixed children.
In 2022, J.D. Vance was elected to the US Senate and is currently running as the Republican vice-presidential candidate. As soon as Donald Trump announced Vance as his running mate, the media swung into high gear, branding him a right-wing nationalist, ignoring his impressive rise to the top against all odds. Those who read his memoir, watched the televised version on Netflix, or followed his public life knew this was completely wrong. Luckily, there was a vice-presidential debate that allowed the nation to witness Vance’s calm demeanor, intelligent articulation, and his command of the issues as Governor Waltz floundered in an embarrassing performance. Yet, the media remains steadfast in its ignorant refusal to report the obvious. Rather than highlighting his ability to overcome adversity and his strong family values, they choose to do ridiculous puff pieces on Governor Waltz’s rescue dog.
J.D. Vance had every excuse not to succeed, but rather than be a victim of circumstance, he rose above it all to obtain the American dream. He pushed through numerous barriers and is now a candidate for Vice President of the United States. His plight serves as a shining example of what an individual in this country can accomplish regardless of the dire situation they are given. What can be more American than that?
