NYC Chooses Illegal Migrants Over American Students

Welcome to Rant or Rave Wednesdays. Each week I will be discussing the current state of affairs on relevant issues facing our nation. I will do my best to keep the amount of “rave” articles close to the amount of “rants” – a difficult task given today’s outrageous political climate, but I promise to try.

Let’s begin this week with a rant involving children in New York City. To start the new year off with a bang, Mayor Eric Adams decided to relocate thousands of illegal migrants from a Brooklyn shelter to nearby James Madison High School due to weather concerns. Parents and students were notified that on January 9^th  their school would be closed, but not to worry, remote learning – an oxymoron if there ever was one – would be available.

What a slap in the face to the citizens and taxpayers of NYC. Parents and students were understandably furious, but concerns over disrupting the continuity of their education were drowned out by the mainstream media’s defense that this was only for one day. I wonder if they would feel the same way if it was their children’s school. Hmmm…

NYC Illegal Migrants

The lack of respect the mayor and city officials show for their constituents – to prioritize those who have broken our laws in place of those they are elected to serve is astounding. The education system in this country, particularly the public schools in NYC, are failing our students miserably. According to the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), only 24% of NYC 8th graders are at or above NAEP proficient levels in Math, and 27% in reading.

With the border crisis raging, pundits on the left scream racism and intolerance to any objections given by We the People to the federal government’s unwillingness to secure it. That argument, however, doesn’t fly in this case. Minorities comprise 53% of the student body at James Madison High School, and 73% of its students are considered economically disadvantaged. Given the left’s obsession with race, I decided it was relevant to include those stats. It’s not about the color of the illegal migrant’s skin, it’s about what we are owed as citizens – period.

It is irrelevant that this disruption was only one day. This incident is a window into what will come if illegal migrants continue to stream across our border. There will be an inevitable negative impact on the already flailing education system.

As a parent, I am outraged. Our children suffered through the idiotic and non-evidence-based mandates of closing schools during COVID. Many of us fought against these insane policies when they were being implemented, but too many were silent.

The solution is for community members to hold their local elected officials accountable. Attend city council meetings, school board meetings, etc., and voice your grievances. They work for us! And for the love of God, stop electing people who do not hold your best interest at heart.
