Rant or Rave
Officer Diller and A Tale of Two Presidents
This week I have a double feature for you – both a rant and a rave that displays a tale of two Presidents. Last Monday, NYPD officer, Jonathan Diller was murdered. He was 31 years old and because of the asinine policies of a city in chaos, his wife and 1-year-old son are now without a husband and father.
Officer Diller and his partner were conducting a traffic stop in the Far Rockaway section of Queens, NY. After approaching the car and asking the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle, career criminal, 34-year-old Guy Rivera refused and fired his weapon at Officer Diller, hitting him right below his bullet-proof vest, ultimately killing him.
This incident brings up a host of issues, but perhaps the clearest truth it revealed to the public was the difference between the two men looking to occupy the Oval Office in 2025. The reactions of former President Trump and President Biden bear the stark contrast between them. How did they each respond to this senseless murder?
I was running errands and listening to the radio when one of the hosts broached the shooting of Officer Diller. He reported that as the wife was making arrangements for her fallen husband, she was interrupted by a phone call. The person on the line was President Trump. He wanted to offer his condolences for the unjust tragedy. Several minutes after that call, she received a call from Tunnel to Towers Foundation informing her that they would be taking care of her mortgage. This is not an isolated incident. President Trump has consistently displayed his affection and consideration for patriotic Americans long before he became involved in politics.
Even though he’s in the middle of a contentious campaign for President and is facing an onslaught of illegitimate and vindictive charges – the bureaucracy is coming after him full force – he not only sought to console the family but also came to Long Island, NY to attend the services for Officer Diller on Thursday, March 28th. After personally visiting and speaking with the family, he offered remarks to the press regarding the loss this family must now endure and how the insanity needs to stop.
What was Joe Biden doing on this same day? He was attending a swanky fundraiser in the very city where Officer Diller was senselessly murdered. Clowns, like Steve Colbert and Lizzo were in attendance, along with former Presidents Clinton and Obama. Some of the tickets cost up to $500,000 and the event raised over $26 million. If the juxtaposition of what these two men did on this day doesn’t paint a clear picture of the divergence between them, I don’t know what does.
Even worse, when asked to comment on Officer Diller’s killing, the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, read directly from her notes as she usually does when asked serious questions, and stated that the shooting is a “painful reminder of the toll of gun violence.” There you have it folks, no need to show any humanity, these people are sticking to their stupid talking points, as if ‘gun control’ would have done anything to stop this heinous murder.
I’m a big believer in holding people accountable for what they do. There are instances when it is not fair to say that one person’s actions or speech led to another person’s crime. In this case, however, the correlation is undoubtedly apparent. In January 2020, New York ended the use of bail for many crimes. What would follow should have been obvious to policymakers, even the dim-witted ones of New York – crime exploded, city streets became dirtier and more dangerous, and repeat offenders came in and out of the system like a revolving door, ultimately leading to a decreased quality of life for tax-paying and law-abiding citizens. Officer Diller’s killer, Guy Rivera, had over 20 prior arrests, including nine felonies. Why was this man allowed to terrorize the streets of New York City?
I actually empathize with the need to help first-time offenders or low-level criminals, but you don’t reform the system to work in favor of the evilest people in society. That is the antithesis of justice. Interestingly, Trump was the first president to implement a criminal justice reform law on a national scale. If New York and other blue municipalities want a blueprint for common-sense criminal justice reform, they can look at President Trump’s First Step Act. This law seeks to truly help those who were unfairly sentenced to punishments that exceeded the crime, instead of these nonsensical bail-reform rules that give precedence to the worst in our society. Officer Diller’s death presents a tale of two Presidents. Who would you rather have leading the nation?
