Steve Baker’s Arrest Exemplifies the True ‘Threat to Democracy’
If you pay even a little attention to the national news, you’ve repeatedly heard the term ‘threat to democracy.’ Leftist politicians, media pundits, and just about anyone who lives in an elite bubble have used that term to describe those protesting at the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. They’ve used it so much that it has become almost meaningless.
Steve Baker, an investigative journalist for the conservative media outlet, The Blaze, entered the Capitol that day. More than 3 years later, he is being charged with four misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct and trespassing. Mr. Baker surrendered himself to authorities last Friday. Ladies and gentlemen, you can rest easy knowing that the pallbearers of democracy got their man. If you happen to be in the D.C. area, you might encounter a robbery, a car theft, or maybe even a shooting, but you can be confident that Mr. Baker is not lurking in any dark alley or hiding behind any corner.
The FBI affidavit against Steve Baker is almost comical to read because it seems like they’re methodically pursuing the mastermind of someone who set off a bomb. Speaking of bombs – now that I see the sophisticated technology the FBI used to track Mr. Baker, I cannot understand why there is no information or arrests for the person(s) who left two pipe bombs outside both the Democratic and Republican headquarters that day. How convenient. With all this technology, you would think they would at least have a lead. But I digress.
Baker entered the Capitol Building and was inside for a whopping 37 minutes; at which time he is photographed walking past police officers. At no time, does he commit an act of violence against them or anyone else. Also, keep in mind, that Steve Baker was unarmed and recording the events that day. At one point, he was in Nancy Pelosi’s office, observing the vandalism. What was Mr. Baker’s real crime? It was referring to the former Speaker of the House as a certain expletive.
Washington D.C. – the epitome of cleanliness and safety is distraught with the chaos and vandalism of Jan 6th that they are simply not used to witnessing. It’s not like there’s much crime in D.C. -right? There’s certainly no homelessness, graffiti, or garbage on those streets, so one can understand the angst when furniture was broken, and some windows were busted in. Oh, the horror! Can you sense the sarcasm dripping off the page? Now, to be clear, I’m not condoning anyone who trespassed, vandalized Capitol property, or assaulted someone. They should be punished accordingly. However, having your constitutional rights stripped away is not acceptable in a democracy.
I wish the FBI and prosecutors were as resolute when pursuing actual criminals who commit acts of violence against innocent people as they are with the January 6th defendants. The double standard is a bit much. Should those who stormed the Capitol and vandalized property be punished? The answer is yes. Should anyone who committed an act of violence that day be punished? Yes. But that’s not what is going on here. What the government is doing is the true threat to democracy – punishing its political opponents. Some of the people arrested over the years never stepped foot inside the Capitol building that day. It has been a little over 3 years since the January 6th riot took place. Anyone who vandalized anything and has been in the D.C. jail since then has exceeded the appropriate punishment.
Despite the lies they tried to spew following January 6th, only one person was killed that day, a female Air Force Veteran named Ashli Babbit. Her crime? Climbing through a broken window in the Capitol building. Capitol Police Officer Lt. Michael Byrd fired the fatal shot even though Mrs. Babbit was not carrying a weapon. Not only were no charges brought against Byrd, but he has since been promoted to captain. Democracy at its finest.
It is critical to note that not a single individual related to January 6th has been charged with insurrection – another term thrown around by the swamp. Regarding the 1,200 people who have been arrested, none of the charging documents refer to January 6th as an insurrection, yet they use the term profusely to describe it. Also, they have made a pitiful attempt to brand January 6th as a historic day. Our intellectually deprived Vice President compared January 6th to 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, which serves only to trivialize those horrific and tragic events. The caliber of those in high office representing the United States is truly embarrassing.
The swamp repeatedly utters the words ‘threat to democracy,’ yet they are the ones disregarding it, trampling on it, and destroying it. A true threat to democracy is targeting political opponents. The real threat is when those in power consistently try to remove the current front-runner of the opposing party from the ballot. Censoring free speech, whether you agree with the speech or not, epitomizes dismantling democracy. Lying and ignoring the constitution, the bedrock of democracy, like they did during COVID, harms democracy. How about creating a fake Russia hoax and lying to a FISA court while doing so? Targeting and attacking a free press? Should I continue? We are currently witnessing the biggest threat to democracy right in front of our eyes, and it includes silencing and imprisoning political opposition.
As for Mr. Baker, he was released from custody after his first court appearance. To learn more about his story, watch the interview The P.A.S. Report has conducted.
