Governor Cuomo’s initiative to “Reimagine Education” would not fix our broken education system. As I have highlighted before, our education system has fundamentally collapsed and in need of serious reform. However, the initiative to “Reimagine Education” is not the answer. Merging big government and big tech will completely destroy our education system. Rather than an education system built on learning, knowledge, social engagement, and the ability to think critically, it will be an education system built on obedience and compliance. Teachers do more than teach and technology cannot replace.

More importantly, we need to recognize the greatness of our culture. America has been able to overcome many obstacles in our 230+ years history. We have met every challenge and emerged stronger than before. It is imperative we don’t let fear and politics change our way of life. It’s imperative that we don’t give up the very principles that have defined the United States and led to America’s greatness.

When the current coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis passes, America, as a nation, needs to engage in a conversation about what direction we go in. Once we begin to responsibly reopen the country, we need to completely reevaluate the powers of government, the state government’s reliance on the federal government, and most importantly, the purpose of government. Should we really allow chief Executives to rule by decree with little input from the legislative branch? Should we really encourage citizens to rat one another out? Should we really be using surveillance drones to enforce social distancing? As the calls for the Orwellian state grow louder, we must remember the principles that guided us to become the greatest country the world has have witnessed.

This episode is not about the coronavirus, but the bigger picture of what we do in times of crisis. It’s about how Americans are largely responsible and disciplined. But it also illustrates how often we take our basic rights for granted, and how quickly we can lose these rights. It highlights how willing we are to give up our natural given rights when we are scared, and the lack of appreciation for Liberty- a concept that’s supposed to be instilled in our DNA. How fear is driving us towards a “new normal” and it’s this idea of a new normal that we need to question. Many of us don’t realize how quickly a free country can slide into tyranny.
