Vice Presidential Candidate J.D. Vance – The Epitome of the American Dream
From a young age, the odds were stacked against J.D. Vance. This stands in sharp contrast to the propaganda Americans are incessantly subjected to – that all white men are oppressors and are privileged. Vance’s story, which mirrors millions of others who are victims of the socio-economic status they are born into, proves otherwise. J.D. Vance was born in the lower middle-class town of Middletown, Ohio, and certainly did not enjoy any privilege. This week is a rave about the kind of person who embodies the strength and values The United States stands for.
Like many towns in Appalachia, Middletown was riddled with poverty and drug addiction. Vance grew up without his father in the home and his mother, like so many in the region, became addicted to prescription painkillers and heroin. Fortunately, she is now in recovery and has been sober for years. However, because of all the turmoil during his childhood, he started to do poorly in school and became withdrawn.
