Episode Description
In this episode of the P.A.S. Report podcast, Professor Nick Giordano discusses how the border battle is heating up. The Biden administration has been derelict in its duty to secure the southern border, and states like Texas are taking decisive action. As Governor Greg Abbott takes a stand against the open border crisis, the administration’s attempts to hinder Texas intensify the conflict. Against the backdrop of the impeachment proceedings against DHS Secretary Mayorkas, and the rejection of a Senate border bill deemed insufficient, this episode offers a compelling exploration of the deepening crisis and its profound impact on the nation’s security and political landscape.

Today, I want to talk about the border battle that is really heating up. This administration has been derelict in its duty to secure the southern border. This is a catastrophic disaster. A few weeks ago I explained a House Homeland Security Committee report that concluded this crisis is costing hardworking Americans nearly a half trillion taxpayer dollars.
I also explained how this raises the question about the worth of citizenship considering that under this administration anywhere from 6-9 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States, which translates into about 9-12 congressional seats in the next census.
We are talking about hundreds of billions of dollars to fund their housing, healthcare, education, food, monthly subsidies, and to add insult to injury, our representation is being diluted in the process. This is unsustainable, and states like Texas have had enough.
You have Texas Governor Greg Abbott who has been trying to get control of the border in his state, but he is stymied at every turn by the Biden administration. As a political scientist, and someone who teaches about federalism in the classroom, this is such a fascinating topic because there are so many directions I can go in.
Unfortunately, so many Americans are completely unaware of the concept of federalism and how our system works. They don’t know much about the Constitution and who is responsible for what in our system of governance. This is one of the reasons that nearly every issue has become federalized over the last few decades.
But when it comes to immigration, it is a clear federal responsibility. However, that doesn’t mean that states don’t play a role and have a say, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott has all but invoked Article 4 of the Constitution by declaring the border crisis an invasion. So, who is right Constitutionally? Is it the Biden administration, Governor Abbott, or do both have merits to their arguments?
There are several dimensions to this that I want to explore in this episode. I want to talk about the border battle that’s heating up between Texas and the feds and the 25 other states that have pledged their support to Texas.
This dispute is now taking place against the backdrop of potential impeachment proceedings against DHS Secretary Mayorkas. The House of Representatives has unveiled articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, and so how does this impact the border?
Then you have a Senate agreement between some Republicans and Democrats in regard to the border, but the House has announced the compromise agreement is dead on arrival. The media is apoplectic and they are blaming former President Trump for torpedoing the agreement. However, what was in this agreement, and would this agreement secure the border, or is the agreement another slap in the face to every single American and legal permanent resident?
As the crisis deepens, I will explain it all and I will explain the profound impact this issue has on the political landscape, our nation’s security, and the future of the United States.
So everyone, hang tight, and I will get to it all when we get back from this quick break.
