Iran and the Implications of Conflict
We are in dangerous territory, and world politics is like a chess match where you must anticipate the moves of your enemies, adversaries, and allies. Unfortunately, it appears we, and many around the world, have decided to play checkers instead of not realizing the grave consequences that lie ahead.
The drumbeats of war are growing louder every day, and there are many analysts and politicians, from both sides of the political aisle, that are encouraging the use of force against Iran. However, these people are unaware of what lies ahead. First, we are already breaking the economic back of Iran. We have bankrupted the Quds force and the Revolutionary Guard. We have limited their arms transfer capabilities with Hezbollah. We have isolated them in the international community showing the world the pariah that the Iranian regime is. Continuing our series, some are calling for a dramatic change to the voting laws. These changes are for political purposes only rather than making changes that are in the best interest of the Republic.
Voting Age
The calls for lowering the voting age to 16 have grown louder and louder. The proponents of reducing the voting age claim it allows more people to participate in the political process. Also, they argue that the youth would be better informed about our government and institutions because voting equals buy-in. Finally, they say that many 16-year olds are working and paying taxes, so it would be akin to when the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18 in 1971. To some, abolishing the Electoral College and adding seats to the Supreme Court is not enough. Some have begun raising questions about the potential to reform the U.S. Senate. The notion of reforming the Senate would be laughable if it was not for the dangers of such talk.
Those that wish to reform the Senate make the argument that the Senate is an undemocratic institution. They believe it is unfair that each state has equal representation regardless of population. They are correct on both points, but they are either ignorant, intellectually dishonest, or are flat out deceiving the American people. The calls to increase the number of seats on the Supreme Court have been growing louder and louder. Unsatisfied with the current leanings of the court, some are calling to pack the court with liberal justices. This logic is both unprecedented and dangerous. The Supreme Court is the one institution that Americans still largely respect. Citizens may disagree with the Court’s decisions at times, but they recognize the moral authority the Court holds. The fact that many cannot explain how the Electoral College works and why the founding fathers decided to implement this system reflects a failure in our education system. We have been programmed to believe the POTUS is the President of the United States and represents the people. POTUS really stands for President of THESE United States. The Undoing of America and Our Institutions: Part 1
The PAS Report will be releasing a series of articles related to the undoing of America and our institutions throughout the week. This topic must be discussed, and every American should be aware of the danger these proposals pose to our institutions. Our Republic has never been under this type of threat and these proposals would dismantle the entire system.
Unfortunately, people have not accepted the results of the 2016 election. As the 2020 presidential race heats up, some of the proposals being introduced are outright dangerous. Also, there are those who wish to reform the United States and our institutions purely for political gain. These proposals include reforming the Electoral College, the Supreme Court, the U.S. Senate, statehood and the voting age. Make no mistake about it, the political stability of the United States will cease to exist if these proposals ever came to light.
These series of articles are intended to explain why the founding father’s designed America’s institutions, and why they implemented a series of safeguards to prevent the Tyranny of the Majority. Furthermore, these articles also explain why some are seeking to change the system. It is time we reeducate ourselves and the principles set forth by the founding fathers.
